About Cancer Support Yorkshire

Cancer Support Yorkshire is a small, independent charity providing practical and emotional support to people affected by cancer. Since 1988, the charity has supported patients and families to live well with, and beyond, a cancer diagnosis. Our services include counselling, wellbeing support and welfare rights advice, and we work from centres in Bradford and Skipton.

We depend on the continued support of our communities, donors, fundraisers and business partners to sustain and grow our services. This role is an important part of helping us provide free, practical support that reduces financial pressure and helps local people affected by cancer focus on their wellbeing, treatment and recovery.

About the Role

The Welfare Rights Adviser will provide specialist advice and casework to people affected by cancer, supporting clients to maximise income, access benefits and grants, resolve benefit issues and understand their options. The postholder will manage referrals, assess need, provide appointments by telephone, online and face-to-face, and work with clients from initial enquiry through to outcome.

The role requires empathy, accuracy and sound judgement. You will work with people who may be newly diagnosed, seriously ill, caring for someone, bereaved or experiencing financial hardship. You will maintain clear case records, follow safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection requirements, and contribute to monitoring and reporting so that Cancer Support Yorkshire can demonstrate the impact of its welfare rights service.
