We have a team of qualified complementary therapists who volunteer with us to offer a range of therapies for those affected by cancer. These can help with stress, anxiety and pain relief...or just provide relaxing time out for you. All therapies are subject to availability.

Each of our centers offer different therapies. Please call us to find out more.

  • Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oils to promote physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing. Treatments are usually offered in the form of a gentle massage after a holistic assessment by your therapist.

  • Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique provides a simple, practical method for improving ease and freedom of movement, balance, support and coordination.  It teaches you how to create a new balance in the body by releasing unnecessary tension and to only use the appropriate amount of effort for an activity, thereby giving you more energy for other activities.

  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) is a simple. easy-to-use technique that helps to promote effective relief from stress, anxiety and symptom relief through tapping on certain energy points.

  • Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy involves reaching a deep and natural state of relaxation, which helps to relax and calm the body and mind.  The therapist will help you to enter a very relaxed state and will take you through a relaxation routine.  At all times during a session you will still have complete awareness and control.

  • Indian Head Massage

This is a massage technique which works on the shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face.  It can help ease tension, promote relaxation and help to reduce stress.  This therapy can be performed with or without the use of essential oils.

  • Life Coaching

Life coaching helps you to recognise your self-worth and to make positive changes in your life. Our life coach will support and encourage you throughout the process, helping you to keep to your objectives and targets.

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a non-invasive technique which helps to remove excess fluid and waste products from the body quickly. This is done through a specialised form of massage which helps stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage the flow of fluid out of the affected area into an area that drains normally.

  • Massage

Massage can help to promote physical and mental relaxation and stimulate the body’s vital energy to encourage circulation and lymphatic flow. The therapist will adapt the techniques used to suit your individual needs after your initial consultation.

  • Podiatry

Podiatry can also be known as Chiropody and is the treatment of foot and lower limb problems such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails and arthritis. Podiatrists can also help with possible side effects caused by cancer treatment.

  • Reflexology

This is a specialised form of foot massage working on the reflex areas of the feet to promote relaxation, relieve stress and tension by stimulating the body’s own healing mechanism. Many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the body and mind. Our volunteer Reflexologists are qualified and experienced practitioners.

  • Reiki

Reiki is a system of ‘hands-on’ therapy that works to harmonise and balance all aspects of your wellbeing; physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually thus promoting the body’s own natural healing process. All can benefit from the relaxing and re-energising effects of this gentle therapy. Our volunteer Reiki therapists are qualified and experienced practitioners.

I am a cancer survivor and owe a lot to Cancer Support Yorkshire for helping me out of that very deep, dark hole. I now fundraise to give a bit back and to help others because I know what they're going through.

Cathryn

After my cancer diagnosis I was anxious and confused. Although I had great support at home I felt I needed more help without burdening my nearest and dearest. I called in at CSY where I was made to feel very welcome and put at ease by the friendly staff.

Gordon

I have received the most amazing support help and support from the therapy sessions. The therapist was so kind and knowledgeable. I truly could not have got through the last year without this support.

I have really enjoyed my massages that one hour a week helped me empty my mind of horrible thoughts.
