Its Volunteers week, so we take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our volunteers, without whom, we couldn’t do the things that we do. Below, Ellie shares her story of volunteering with CSY.
“I started volunteering for Cancer Support Yorkshire as a trainee counsellor in January 2021. How time has flown, and I fondly look back on the whole journey. The staff made me feel welcome & respected, and I was treated with kindness since my very introduction to the charity. I have always felt valued as a member of the team.
Counselling with Cancer Support has given me the opportunity to work with many people and this has been a valuable learning experience as a trainee, and also a great privilege. I have valued every moment with the clients I have worked with. Each relationship has been unique and it always brings me joy to see positive progress in a clients journey.
I have completed my Counselling Course, but have decided to continue to volunteer for Cancer Support Yorkshire because I have witnessed how helpful the service can be for local people who are affected by cancer. I have even shown support by raising money for the charity; getting involved in the Santa fun run and holding a coffee morning.”
Thank you Ellie, for sharing with us, for volunteering and supporting us in all the ways that you can.
