My name is Caroline Lewis and I am the Events Fundraiser for Cancer Support Yorkshire, I have worked for the charity for 6 years and can safely say that my time here has flown. Every day is different, sometimes challenging but always interesting.
I have had many roles at Cancer Support Yorkshire and I definitely win the prize for the most job changes. I started off as a front line member of staff, answering the phone and meeting and greeting our visitors. I would establish what they needed and spoke to the correct team best placed to help. I then moved into the Information Team, looking after and supplying the information that we provide to our clients. My role changed slightly when the Information Team became the Community Team, this role enabled me to get out and about facilitating cancer awareness information stands and speaking to community groups about our charity and the support we offer.
I had always been interested in helping the Fundraising Team and helped out at their events regularly so when a position in the Fundraising team came up I jumped at the chance and applied for the role. Thankfully I was successful and am now the proud owner of a new badge that reads “Events Fundraiser.”
I meet so many wonderful and inspiring people in my work and I always feel honoured that they would want to share their cancer journey with me. I never fail to be bowled over by people’s generosity and ideas to raise funds for Cancer Support Yorkshire.
Fundraising can be challenging at times but my role is absolutely key in ensuring that Cancer Support Yorkshire will continue for many years to come. In 2018 our Charity will be 30 years old role and we hope to continue for another 30 years and beyond.
